DeMarcus Cousins Blasts Former NOLA GM for Squandering Chip Opportunity

Former All-Star DeMarcus Cousins recently called out former Pelicans general manager Dell Demps when reflecting on his time at the organization with Anthony Davis.

Cousins was traded to the Pelicans in 2017 after spending six seasons with the Kings. He unfortunately ruptured his left Achilles tendon after recording a career-high 36.2 minutes per game, and from Dec. 29 through Jan. 22.

The injury kept him off the court for over a year after that, but the former big man believes that if the front office had kept the team together, they could have been contenders.

“I don’t think the year that I blew my Achilles it would have happened, but they would have kept that squad together, we definitely would have made a run, at least by Year 2, I believe,” Cousins said on Run It Back.

“But it’s some dumbass GMs out there – shoutout to Dell Demps.”

Cousins was then asked as a follow-up if he thought that he and Davis could have been the best duo in NBA history, had they stayed playing together for the Pels.

“In NBA history?” Cousins asked. “That’s tough to say. That’s tough to say when you’ve got guys like Tim Duncan and David Robinson as teammates and everything they’ve accomplished, but I think we could have been in the conversation, and I definitely think we had the talent to even be mentioned next to those guys. But obviously, we ain’t accomplish sh*t, so it’s not really nothin’ to talk about, but from a talent aspect, I think we either 1A, 1B or close second.”

Cousins and Davis didn’t get another chance to play alongside each other again after that, since Boogie signed with the Warriors for the 2018-19 season, while Davis played one more season in New Orleans before being traded to the Lakers for the 2019-20 campaign.
