Kawhi Leonard hasn’t exactly been blown away by any of his Clippers teammates at training camp.
The Clippers’ 2024-25 roster will feature some new faces, including Kris Dunn and Derrick Jones Jr., after the departure of Paul George.
The Clippers star told reporters that “nobody stood out to me so far.”
No doubt Kawhi will play a massive role in the team’s title chase, but he needs to get that pesky knee injury right first.
When asked if he will take the court before LA’s season opener at the Inuit Dome against the Suns he said there’s always “a buildup … especially in the position I’m in.”
Leonard has spent the offseason and training camp strengthening his surgically-repaired right knee.
“I feel good,” Leonard told ESPN. “Just been taking my time, getting stronger and getting ready.
“… We’re just taking it slow, day by day and just trying to get me back on the floor. Once those conversations come, we’ll see what they’re talking about [on the best approach for back-to-backs].”
Leonard hasn’t been able to play a full slate of NBA games since tearing his right ACL in the 2021-22 season.
He wants to play in as many games as possible, but that’s certainly not his main goal.
“This is what I work for,” Leonard said. “I strive to get a championship and I’m not out there to try to [solely] play 82 games. I’m trying to win, even though [playing as much as I can] that’s obligated for me. I try to. But it hasn’t worked out [the last two postseasons] so we’ll see.”
