Gilbert Arenas Tells Hilarious Story Of Trash Talking Dwyane Wade and Regretting It

Gilbert Arenas

Gilbert Arenas has shared a hilarious memory of trash-talking a young Dwyane Wade and immediately regretting it.

Arenas told the story on a recent episode of The OGs podcast.

“Beginning of the season started, we’re coming into the 04-05 season,” Arenas said. “Everybody’s talking about the Heat. You know, Shaq went over there. And I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll just treat D-Wade like they did in the Olympics, just play a zone.’ Didn’t think nothin’ of it. You know how you’re looking at the scoreboards (after the game)? Like, we got three games, like 40 (points), 45. Did he circle the date? ‘Cause the way he’s coming towards us…

“… I called the hotel. ‘Hey, Dwayne. Hey, man, listen. Yeah, this is Gil. Hey, that stuff, I don’t know if you’ve seen it about two weeks ago. Yeah, they misconstrued that. I ain’t say it like that, right? Just let you know. Warm up line, (Wade is) on demon mode. I was like, ‘I don’t know if you warm up like this, but he don’t look right, it don’t look like that phone call helped.’ That was the last time I ever said anything about a player.”

Arenas isn’t kidding when he says Wade destroyed the Wizards that season.

When the Heat met the Wizards in the second round of the 2005 playoffs, Wade finished the series with averages of 31 points, seven rebounds and eight assists per game as Miami swept Washington.

The Heat then lost the Eastern Conference Finals to the Pistons that season, but Wade led them to the championship the following year.
