Steph Curry Reveals He Ignored Klay Thompson’s Request

Before Klay Thompson decided on his future with the Warriors, he had one request of longtime teammate Steph Curry.

The request was for “Curry not to exert his significant organizational influence and up the temperature with management to ensure Thompson’s return,” The Athletic’s Anthony Slater first reported.

But Curry didn’t care for the request, and spoke to the higher-up’s anyway.

Curry had a conversation with Golden State owner Joe Lacob and others and he erecently revealed to The Athletic what was said.

“We want Klay back,” Curry told Amick. “I’m not going to tell them what number it is [on the contract]. I’m not going to tell them [anything beyond that]. Again, part of the way we operate is that there’s always conversation. When anything changes, I just want to know what’s up, to know where everybody stands. It’s not like I’m telling everybody how to think or act, because we all get paid to do our separate jobs.

“But, yeah, I hope that when it comes to the way organization handled it, that when we look back at it, it’s more of a two-way street conversation of what Klay needed and what the organization needed, and that there’s some middle ground there, because this is a very emotional thing all the way around. (He’s) the first one of us three to go.”

Despite being the face of the franchise, after Klay’s departure Steph is very live to the fact that players’ circumstances can change very quickly.

“I mean, I can clearly say I want to be a Warrior for life,” Curry told Yahoo Sports from inside Team USA basketball camp for the upcoming Paris Olympics. “It’s always been my goal, and I’m saying that sitting in this chair right now, but like you said, life, and especially life in the NBA, it is a wild environment, and things change quickly.”
