Paul Pierce does not think JJ Redick is ready to become an NBA head coach. He made that much clear during a recent appearance on Undisputed, when he mocked the Lakers’ reported interest in Redick.
“If you want to hire Redick cause what he says on a podcast sounds good, go ahead,” he said. “You hear him drawing up plays, it sounds like the right thing to do, like he has great IQ.”
Pierce even compared pursuing Redick to chasing an Instagram model.
“It’s like an IG model,” he said. “It looks good, you scroll through the pics, but when you see in person, it ain’t what you think.”
While Pierce chose a rather unconventional way to make his point, there could be other ( and more legitimate) arguments that perhaps Redick isn’t ready.
The main concern for a potential Redick hire is that he doesn’t have any NBA coaching experience whatsoever.
Even some of the best basketball minds in the world often serve as an assistant coach for many years.
But if the Lakers do offer Redick their head coaching job, all the power to him. Most folks around the league will wish him well. Just don’t be so sure about Paul Pierce.
