Bronny James has sparked speculation that he could be interested in transferring to Ohio State.
James posted a year-old photo of him in a Buckeyes jersey, standing next to his mother Savannah, in an Instagram story for Mother’s Day.
Ohio State is the largest basketball program in the James family’s home state, and LeBron James is a longtime fan of the Buckeyes’ sports teams.
Last month, Bronny announced he would enter the 2024 NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility, while also entering the transfer portal.
The Instagram post may not seem like much, but it’s hard to believe Bronny doesn’t know what he’s doing or how his post would be received.
He visited Ohio State ahead of his freshman college season but ultimately committed to USC, where he was able to stay close to his Los Angeles based family.
Purely from a basketball perspective, staying in college for at least one more year would make a lot of sense for Bronny, who is not widely considered to be ready for the NBA.
But nepotism is a powerful thing, especially when you’re the heir to King James, and recently Shams Charania reported that the Lakers have genuine interest in acquiring Bronny.
The report suggests the Lakers are willing to do everything in their power to appease LeBron. If that’s the case, and they’re able to draft Bronny or acquire him some other way, any potential Ohio State homecoming could be dead in the water.
