With NBA free agency looming, there are already some juicy rumors floating around. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest ones right now.
KLAY THOMPSON TO DALLAS?
Klay Thompson will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Steve Kerr says the Warriors want to keep him, however the Dallas Mavericks “are worth watching as a possible suitor as well”, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Amick also mentioned the Orlando Magic as a “wild card” to land Thompson, while fellow NBA insider Marc Stein previously reported that Orlando has been “increasingly mentioned” as a potential suitor for the longtime Warrior.
Thompson finished the season with a zero-point performance on 0-10 shooting as Golden State lost to Sacramento in a play-in elimination game. His struggles have raised major questions about how much the Warriors, or any another team, should pay him in free agency.
MIAMI TO MAKE A STRONG PLAYER FOR A SUPERSTAR?
Pat Riley and the Miami Heat have always been in the business of hunting star players, and their intentions this summer appear to be no different.
DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, and Pascal Siakam are among the star players set to become unrestricted free agents this offseason, but according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Heat could also pursue a star via trade.
“Miami is always in a great position,” Wojnarowski said. “Especially if it’s players with not a lot left on their contract, one year or two years, and they tell their team ‘I want a trade to the Heat, and if you don’t send me to the Heat, I’m going to become a free agent and go somewhere else…’ Now, teams can still decide to send you where they want to send you. But it’s always an advantage for Miami. Players want to be a part of that organization.”
TOBIAS HARRIS TO DETROT?
Tobias Harris is reportedly unlikely to return to Philadelphia when he hits free agency in the offseason, and it seems a return to Detroit could be in play.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, “Several NBA executives believe there’s a chance he’ll land with the Detroit Pistons in free agency.”
Harris’ existing five-year, $180 million contract is widely considered to be among the most inflated deals in the NBA. He has averaged 17.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in that time.
Despite earning superstar-level money, Harris is the third-best player on the 76ers, and was the fourth-best last season when James Harden was in Philadelphia.
