Anthony Edwards On Why He Wanted to Play Suns in Round 1

Anthony Edwards says he couldn’t be happier about playing the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Edwards explained why during an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews this week.

“This is the matchup I wanted personally because they got two of the best 2-guards in the league,” he said. “Book been the best 2-guard in the league for a minute.”

Edwards has also previously stated that Suns superstar Kevin Durant is his favourite player of all-time.

“Now that I know those two guys will be playing alongside me at the Olympics, it’s kind of bragging rights at this point,” he added. “So that’s as much ammo as I need.”

The friendly competition between Edwards and Durant was on full display during Game 1, especially when Edwards hit three shots over Durant in quick succession to cap off an electric third quarter and then started playfully taunting him.

Edwards finished the game with 33 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the Timberwolves defeated the Suns 120-95 to take a 1-0 series lead.

He even talked some trash to Durant for good measure.

“I think everybody here knows that’s my favourite player of all time,” Edwards said of Durant postgame. “That was probably one of the best feelings ever in my whole life, for sure.”

Minnesota and Phoenix will meet again for Game 2 in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
