Ben McLemore, a former NBA guard and college star, was arrested and jailed over charges stemming from allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in 2021.
McLemore was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant for one charge of first-degree rape, one charge of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and two charges of second-degree sexual abuse, according to police.
The charges stemmed from a report of sexual assault in Lake Oswego on Oct. 3, 2021, when McLemore was playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.
He last played in the NBA in 2022 and has since suited up for a series of overseas teams. His departure from the country led to delays in the police investigation.
“We applaud the courage of the survivor to come forward and put herself through this arduous process, and we will continue to support her in any way we can,” the police said in a statement.
McLemore spent time at the Multnomah County Detention Center and Clackamas County Jail, before being released, according to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes.
His bail was set at $500,000 and his next court hearing is set for July 1 in Oregon, according to the report.
McLemore was the seventh pick in the 2013 NBA draft. He was a star player at the University of Kansas but never came close to reaching his full potential as an NBA player.
