As if Victor Wembanyama wasn’t scary enough on his own, it turns out he has a younger brother.
16-year-old Oscar Wembanyama is already 6’8 and plays for LDLC ASVEL’s U-21 team in France.
While Victor was already over seven feet tall at the same age, Oscar still has great height and will continue to grow.
He is the youngest child of Felix Wembanyama, a former track and field athlete, and Elodie de Fautereau, a professional basketball player-turned-coach.
Incredibly, the younger Wembanyama only started playing basketball two years ago, but he already has a U-15 title under his belt.
Oscar is yet to announce any plans beyond his current situation, but at such a young age, an NBA career can’t be ruled out.
The most important thing to him seems to be forging his own path, and before his brother was drafted, Oscar said he wasn’t worried about comparisons to Victor.
“I don’t particularly feel in [Victor’s] shadow,” he said. “My goal is not to do exactly like him but to write my own story, as beautiful as possible.”
It’s impossible to know how good Oscar will be, but he has some of the tools already, and the right genetics.
If everything goes according to plan, there could be two Wembys in the NBA. Wouldn’t that be something?
