Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith was involved in a car accident on Tuesday night.

Highsmith hit a person who was helping another driver stuck in the middle of the road, according to Fox Sports’ Andy Slater.

The victim is reportedly in a critical condition and suffered a partial amputation of his leg.

Highsmith was not injured in the accident, according to The Sun Sentinel.

The Heat release a statement regarding the incident but did not provide any details.

“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game,” the Heat said in a statement.

“Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons. Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Highsmith will miss Wednesday’s home game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Heat forward, who is officially listed as out due to personal reasons, is averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 37 games for Miami this season.

He played just three minutes in a blowout victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.
