Anthony Edwards has publicly apologised for messages he sent to a famous Instagram model that appeared to pressure her into having an abortion.
Edwards issued the apology via social media on Monday, in response to a text message thread shared between him and the woman in question, which she posted to her Instagram story.
“I made comments in the heat of a moment that are not me, and that are not aligned with what I believe and who I want to be as a man,” Edwards wrote. “All women should be supported and empowered to make their own decisions about their bodies and what is best for them. I am handling my personal matters privately and will not be commenting on them any further at this time.”

The conversation posted by the woman showed a photo of a positive pregnancy test and Edwards’ responses, which included him saying, “hell nawl can’t do dis” and “Get a abortion lol.”
The post also included a photo of a $100,000 bank transfer, with screenshots showing Edwards saying, “I will send you money to help you out” and “you got da money whats the hol up.”
The controversy comes amid the Timberwolves’ best season in decades.
The long-suffering franchise was finally bouncing back from a disastrous 2022-23 season and previous years of misery to climb to the top of the Western Conference.
Edwards had been a pivotal part of that, emerging as the team’s clear-cut best player despite the presence of fellow number one pick Karl-Anthony Towns.
Edwards is currently listed as questionable for the Timberwolves’ game against the Heat in Miami on Monday due to a right hip pointer injury.
