The Chicago Bulls have stood firm with their squad the past few seasons even though they haven’t yielded results and one NBA insider believes they could be moving to chase a big fish.
“I believe that’s exactly what the Bulls are positioning themselves to do, with all eyes on Giannis Antetokounmpo in the summer of 2025,” Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic said. “If such a plan comes together, we’ll suddenly look at the Bulls front office and their continuity plan a whole lot differently.
“By keeping their failed core together and trumpeting continuity, the Bulls aren’t just remaining competitive in the short term. They’ve also maintained salaries large enough and players talented enough to warrant a seat at the table if the day comes that Antetokounmpo is ready to branch out from Milwaukee.”
In case you missed it, Giannis came out with a rather shocking stance that he may not re-sign with the Bucks if he feels like not everyone on the team is vying for a championship.
As well, a Western conference exec pointed out that Giannis cares less about the big teams and others teams that you wouldn’t normally expect could be suitors.
“No one would be in better position to go after him than OKC,” the anonymous exec told Heavy Sports. “Not to say they would, but they’d have to be a starting point. They have the young talent, they have, I think it is nine (first-round) picks in the next three years. If Milwaukee decides, OK, we’ve got to move on here, that is the first team you call. There aren’t many guys who are going to make the Thunder think about a big move, packaging the assets. But Giannis is one, if he’d want to go there.”
Of course, there are no guarantees that Giannis will jump ship but it looks like the rumors and whispers will be here to stay until his NBA future is decided in the summer of 2025.
