Mac McClung Teases Plans for Next Year’s Slam Dunk Contest

Mac Dunk

G-League player Mac McClung well and truly saved the dunk contest this year with one of the best performances we’ve ever seen and he says he isn’t done yet.

The 24-year-old says he has some more incredible feats in his bag for the 2024 All-Star weekend in Indiana, which is great news because the contest had almost become unwatchable until McClung.

“I’ll come up with some things,” McClung told Shams Charania. “I have a couple [dunks] I didn’t do that I don’t think have been seen before but I’ll create some new things. If I’m invited again, I’ll do my best to be prepared and try to invent some new dunks.”

McClung took all the attention away from NBA regular rotation players Trey Murphy III, Kenyon Martin Jr. and Jericho Sims in the contest and what stunned the NBA world the most was his perfect execution of crazy dunks on the first try.

“Making your dunks is very important,” McClung said. “I felt like getting the crowd on your side with those first dunks and being ready to adapt, seeing what other people do . I wasn’t doing my exact script, so just being able to adapt to the situation and doing a certain dunk you know you’re comfortable with.”

McClung is putting in some impressive performances in the G-League for Sixers affiliate the Delaware Blue Coats as he currently averages 19.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists.

His side will take on the Capital City Go-Go in the Eastern Conference semifinals on Thursday.
