NBA stars LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Draymond Green are buying a pickleball team.
Major League Pickleball is expanding from 12 to 16 teams – and the group of NBA all-stars will spearhead one of the four new organizations.
“Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the country, building communities in cities and towns all over the world,” MLP Founder Steve Kuhn said in a statement.
“This investment and the platform that this group provides will significantly help us with our goal to reach 40 million pickleball players by 2030.”
Kuhn’s projections for mass-popular pickleball may be a bit optimistic – but there’s certainly some money in the endeavor; the 2023 MLP season will feature six tournaments with total prizes worth more than $2 million.
