Team USA Replacing Love, Beal, With McGee and Johnson

Keldon Johnson Team USA

Team USA is replacing Washington Wizards’ guard Bradley Beal and Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward/center Kevin Love with Denver Nuggets’ center JaVale McGee and San Antonio Spurs’ forward Keldon Johnson, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Johnson, 21, was promoted from the Select Team to Team USA in the absence of Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, and Devin Booker; all of whom are competing in the NBA Finals.

McGee, 33, is a 3x NBA champion and defensive specialist who will add much-needed length to the team’s interior defense.

Team USA was scheduled to play the Australian men’s national team on Friday (7/16) – but that game was cancelled after Beal was placed in COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocols.

With the Tokyo Olympics just eight days away, Team USA will have to gel quick to have a chance at competing for the Gold Medal.
