Former Pelicans GM Dell Demps Joins Jazz as Assistant Coach

Former Pelicans GM Dell Demps

Former New Orleans Pelicans GM Dell Demps has agreed to join the Utah Jazz staff as an assistant coach, reuniting with head coach Quin Snyder.

Demps, who was the GM for nine years in New Orleans, is making a career change after working in the front office for two decades.

The partnership with Snyder goes back to their days in San Antonio with a GM/coach partnership with their NBA G League affiliate in Austin, Texas from 2007-2010.

The Jazz were tasked with replacing Johnnie Bryant after he accepted an associate head coach position with the New York Knicks.

After departing New Orleans, Demps decided to make the transition into coaching.

He spent some time attending Utah’s practices and meetings with Snyder and his staff.

Demps played in the league for eight years with stops in Golden State, Orlando, and San Antonio, and several seasons in the now-defunct Continental Basketball Association.

Dell Demps looks to build on a somewhat successful stint in New Orleans by helping Snyder and his staff get Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz to the next level.
