Grizzlies’ Loss Locks In Play-in Tournament For Western Conference

The Toronto Raptors beat the Memphis Grizzlies 108-99 at the VISA Athletic Center in the Orlando bubble on Sunday afternoon, which means that the eighth seed in the Western Conference will be decided by a play-in tournament.

“I’m not worried about no play-in game right now,” Grizzlies guard Ja Morant said after the game, via ESPN.

“Our focus now is learning from our mistakes from this game against the Raptors and try to fix them when we go out and play Boston.”

The Grizzlies have two games remaining on their schedule; one against the Boston Celtics and one against the Milwaukee Bucks.

To secure the eight or nine seed, the Grizzlies will have to stave off the Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and surging Phoenix Suns.

It’s not likely that Memphis will drop to the ten-seed, but it is mathematically possible.

A win against either Boston or Milwaukee would all but guarantee that Memphis will at least participate in the play-in tourney.

The first play-in game is scheduled for August 15 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

If the 9 seed wins that game, then a second game will be played to determine who makes the playoffs.
