A loaded Hall of Fame class that includes Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan will be postponed until 2021.
Jerry Colangelo, the chairman of the Hall of Fame’s board of governors, announced that the proposed dates would not work with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The inductions were originally scheduled for August 28-30, with postponement initially discussed for October 10-12.
“We’re definitely canceling,” Colangelo said.
“It’s going to have to be the first quarter of next year. We’ll meet in a couple of weeks and look at the options of how and when and where.”
The 2020 class will still have its time in the sun, with Colangelo ruling out combing the 2020 class with the 2021 class.
“The Class of 2020 is a very special class and deserves its own celebration,” he said.
