Shaq Surprises First-Graders By Joining Online Class

As teachers, students, and parents try to make the best of quarantine living and social distancing, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal decided to join Georgia first graders during an online class.

The Big Diesel, who is a family friend of one of the students at East Lake Elementary in McDonough, Georgia, hopped on the video chat and took the opportunity to say hello.

Students and parents alike were visibly surprised to see the former Laker and current commentator for the “NBA on TNT.”

“Is that Shaq?” the teacher can be heard asking in the video.

Parents joined their kids in front of the screen to say hello.

No one knew Shaq would be joining the class, and they thanked him for stopping by.

Shaq ended the call telling kids to be good and listen to their parents.

Shaq and the rest of the “NBA on TNT” crew have been on hiatus since the league suspended play March 11.

Schools have been closed for at least a week in many places, and teachers are conducting classes via video conferencing in the wake of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

Shaq’s impromptu visit was an unexpected treat for students and families who can expect to be cooped up for the next few weeks.
