Kristaps Porzingis Addresses Illness & Nasty Rumors

Porzingis (5)

Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined indefinitely, but the Golden State Warriors are expecting the veteran center to rejoin the team as he continues dealing with an ongoing health issue.

The Warriors confirmed Wednesday that Porzingis has not been cleared to practice, with no timetable established for his return.

Despite the uncertainty, the 31-year-old provided an encouraging update on social media.

“I’m working with doctors and experts to figure out how to be fully back to good health [as soon as possible],” Porzingis wrote on X. “Honestly, I’m getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I’ll be feeling great again soon.”

Porzingis informed general manager Mike Dunleavy before training camp that he wouldn’t be reporting, subsequently missing Golden State’s trip to Hawaii and its first five preseason games.

However, he returned to the team’s San Francisco facility Tuesday for a meeting with Dunleavy and medical executive Rick Celebrini, according to ESPN.

While the organization has chosen to keep details of those discussions private, Porzingis is expected to remain around the team as preparations continue for the October 21 season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The former All-Star also acknowledged the difficulties of dealing with persistent health problems throughout his career.

“It has definitely been frustrating dealing with some health stuff that you can’t exactly pinpoint, on top of injuries throughout my career,” Porzingis wrote. “So it has added up for sure, but we will get through it.”

Porzingis has previously discussed lingering health complications following an upper respiratory virus he contracted during his time with the Boston Celtics.

Those concerns contributed to another disrupted season in 2025-26, when he appeared in just 34 games across stints with the Atlanta Hawks and Warriors.

Golden State acquired Porzingis in February in a trade involving Jonathan Kuminga before re-signing him to a two-year, $40 million contract during the offseason.

With his return still uncertain, head coach Steve Kerr is considering a smaller starting lineup featuring Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, Yaxel Lendeborg and Draymond Green.

For now, the Warriors will continue preparing without Porzingis on the court, although his expected presence around the organization represents a step forward as he works toward returning to full health.
