Julius Randle Sends Bold Warning About What’s Coming

Julius Randle hasn’t played a game for the Brooklyn Nets yet, but he’s already setting expectations for what he believes the team can accomplish this season.

After being acquired by Brooklyn in June, Randle told rookie Mikel Brown Jr. that the Nets were going to “shock the world.”

Now, the three-time All-Star has explained exactly what he meant.

“Exactly that,” Randle said, according to NetsDaily. “Whatever your expectations are, whatever expectations that are put upon us, we’re gonna exceed them and we’re gonna do things at a very high level. We’re gonna build, come in with the right habits every single day, and we’re gonna do exactly that.”

Randle has already spent time getting to know Brooklyn’s young core ahead of training camp, working out in Texas with Egor Dëmin, Brown and Josha Jefferson.

“Egor, Mikel, Joshua, all those guys, like extremely, extremely hard workers,” Randle told NetsDaily. “Attention to detail, but just really, really hard workers. Competition level is really high. Whether it’s, you know, playing one-on-one or we’re in a shooting drill, whatever, like everything is done, you know, at game speed. Attention to detail. Smart, high-IQ basketball players.”

The 31-year-old is one of the experienced pieces on a Nets roster featuring eight players aged 23 or younger. He has also spoken highly of fellow veteran Michael Porter Jr. and what he can bring alongside him.

“I told him that like players like him, I love playing with because of how well he can space the floor,” Randle said of MPJ. “He loves big shots, big moments, and, like, they always seem to know exactly like where to be. He does it at an extremely high level, so I’m excited.”

Randle brings plenty of production himself after averaging 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and five assists across 79 games during the 2025 season.

But his impact in Brooklyn is already extending beyond the numbers.

“It’s refreshing being around youthful energy like that. Definitely refreshing for me,” Randle said.

The Nets have plenty of young talent and a new veteran leader who clearly isn’t interested in lowering expectations.

Now Randle and Brooklyn have to back up his promise and “shock the world.”
