San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama already has plenty of talent around him in Texas, but if he could add one French teammate to the roster, he knows exactly who he’d pick.
During a quick-fire Q&A with Rookicks while in France, Wembanyama was asked which of his French national team teammates he would bring to San Antonio if he had the chance.
The 22-year-old took a moment to think before settling on a familiar name.
“Off the top of my head, I’d say Evan Fournier,” Wembanyama said.
Fournier brings a wealth of NBA experience to the table.
The veteran guard spent 12 seasons in the league before returning to Europe, where he has quickly established himself as one of the EuroLeague’s premier players.
The Frenchman helped Olympiacos Piraeus win the EuroLeague championship in May and was named Final Four MVP after a standout postseason run.
Fournier and Wembanyama are also no strangers to playing together.
The pair have shared the court with the French national team, most notably at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where France captured the silver medal.
Wembanyama’s quick-fire session also covered a number of other topics.
He was asked whether he thinks he could one day score more than 100 points in a game.
“I agree, yeah,” Wembanyama responded.
The French star was a little more secretive when asked what he had focused on most during his offseason training.
“It’s… um, I can’t tell you,” he said.
Wembanyama also named Dylan Harper as his funniest teammate and didn’t rule out the possibility of playing alongside his younger brother, Oscar, in the future.
“Why not, in the French national team to start with,” he said when asked about the possibility.
Wemby’s 6’8” younger brother has been training with the Spurs while some of the team has been in France. Scary hours having two of them on the court.
