Stephen Curry has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to finish his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors, but the franchise’s underwhelming offseason has sparked fresh questions about whether that could eventually change.
Golden State entered the summer hoping to land another superstar to pair with Curry, but after missing out on LeBron James, the Warriors were left without the marquee addition many expected.
Instead, their biggest move was selecting Yaxel Lendeborg with the No. 11 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
That lack of roster improvement has led to speculation around Curry’s long-term future.
There is growing belief around the league that frustration could eventually force the four-time NBA champion to reconsider his situation, according to Nick Friedell of The Athletic.
“Now, a few months later, with little improvement to the roster, the league wonders whether Curry’s mindset will change,” Friedell wrote. “Speculation continues from both fans and the media that Curry may become so frustrated that he eventually asks out during the final year or two of his career.
“But that’s still hard to envision given that he has been so consistent in both his messaging about wanting to stay with the Warriors and in expressing his love for the Bay Area.”
The Warriors now enter the 2026-27 season facing uncertainty after another disappointing offseason. The franchise has aggressively pursued star talent in recent years, with James representing its latest high-profile target, but those efforts have repeatedly fallen short.
As a result, much of the offensive burden once again falls on Curry, who is entering his 18th NBA season at 38 years old. While Golden State’s veteran core has delivered multiple championships, it is no longer viewed as the long-term foundation of the franchise.
For now, Curry has given no public indication that he wants out. His commitment to the Warriors has remained unwavering throughout his career, and the organization would undoubtedly love to see him retire in the Bay Area.
