7-Time All-Star Floats KD-Russell Westbrook Reunion

Seven time All-Star Joe Johnson would love to see Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant reunite on the Houston Rockets.

The Kings are reportedly not interested in re-signing the veteran Westbrook, and he currently remains without a team for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

So why not bring Durant and Russ back together? The pair played together at Oklahoma for eight seasons and reached the 2012 NBA Finals.

Plus, the Rockets may need some cover at the point guard position, since Fred VanVleet missed the entire 2025-26 season with a torn ACL, Johnson believes.

“I’m taking that gamble because look, think about this. Even if Fred VanVleet, I’m sure he will start the season, but damn, he just come off of ACL surgery,” Johnson said, via Nightcap. “Y’all going to run him in the ground for 82 games. And what he going to be able to get you in the postseason? Nothing. So, you got to have some depth at that point guard position. Guys who know how to play, guys who know and understand the game and who can make the game easy for guys around him.

“So, I always think, bro, and when you look at him [Westbrook] because he up in age, he always in great damn shape. And for me, y’all know me, bro. I’m a guy who loves a guy in great shape. You’re in great shape. You can play with me any day.”

Although Johnson had a long career with the Rockets, he may have forgotten to look at the current roster.

The Rockets looked to solve lack of depth at point guard depth this offseason by getting veteran point guard Marcus Smart and drafting Bruce Thornton as the No. 31 overall pick.

Last season for the Kings, Westbrook averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.2 blocks in 64 games – the numbers are reflective of a guy who still has more to give in the league.

However, his flaws must be addressed.

In crunch time last season, Westbrook converted on just 18.8 percent of his three-pointers, which was the fifth-worst mark throughout the NBA * minimum of 15 attempts.
