Lakers fans might be excited about the Luka Doncic era now, but DeMarcus Cousins has sent a warning on how quickly things can go downhill.
It’s out with LeBron and in with Luka in Los Angeles. The team is clearly going all in on the Luka era. They secured a big man in Walker Kessler that Luka was a fan of and locked down his partner in crime Austin Reaves.
But Cousins pointed out that if you go through a bit of a bad stretch in LA, the fans and the organization alike can be quick to turn on you.
”One thing that I witnessed, and obviously like Luka’s on a way another level than these guys, but I was in LA, and I was there with Kyle Kuzma. I was there with KCP. And one thing I did realize is if you have a bad stretch, they turn on you quick,” Cousins said.
Cousins went on to say, “I’m not comparing Luka to these guys. I don’t think he’ll ever have a bad stretch, as far as numbers-wise or anything like that. I think he’s just a natural-born scorer. But as far as delivering the ultimate prize, which is championships in LA, that’s their standard. Which is deservingly so.
“I just feel like if he does come short, I think we’re going to see another side of that fan base. And I’ve seen it before. This was a year they won a championship, and I watched some s—t on Kyle Kuzma. I watched them some s—t on KCP. So, I don’t know. It’ll be interesting to see.”
Lakers insider Jovan Buha says people inside the organization acknowledge they may have taken a step back froj last season after losing players like LeBron, Rui Hachimura and DeMarcus Cousins, but are still going to try and compete strongly.
