The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade speculation isn’t slowing down, and right now, the Miami Heat appear to be sitting firmly at the center of it all.
“The team to watch here is Miami,” Brian Windhorst said on ESPN’s Get Up. “Giannis, I think, wants to be in Miami.”
That comment only added fuel to what has already been months of speculation surrounding the two-time MVP’s future.
While several contenders have been connected to Antetokounmpo, Miami continues to be viewed as the frontrunner by many around the league.
Windhorst also suggested that the decision won’t simply come down to what the Bucks want.
“Giannis has a seat in the table whether or not they want to admit it or not,” Windhorst said.
The Heat aren’t the only team that has been linked to Antetokounmpo. The Boston Celtics have frequently surfaced in rumors, with some around the league viewing Jaylen Brown as a potential centerpiece in a blockbuster package.
However, Windhorst indicated that Boston may not be eager to move Brown, despite Antetokounmpo’s availability.
Other teams reportedly monitoring the situation include the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.
Each franchise would undoubtedly have interest in adding one of the league’s most dominant players, but none currently appear to have the same momentum as Miami.
Perhaps the most significant update from Windhorst was his belief that this situation could be resolved sooner rather than later.
Windhorst stated that the expectation around the NBA is that Antetokounmpo will be traded before the draft, creating the possibility of one of the biggest offseason moves in recent league history.
For now, all eyes remain on Milwaukee, but the growing belief around the league is that if Giannis moves, South Beach could be where he lands.
