The Golden State Warriors’ difficult stretch shows no signs of easing, with injuries continuing to pile up ahead of their matchup against the New York Knicks.
Already dealing with a thin roster, the Warriors confirmed that Al Horford and Seth Curry will both miss Sunday’s game as the team tries to halt a worrying slide in the Western Conference standings.
Golden State’s latest setback came Friday night in a 127–117 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, a game that summed up the team’s current situation. Multiple players went down with injuries throughout the night, leaving head coach Steve Kerr to once again piece together a depleted lineup.
Kerr didn’t hide the frustration surrounding the team’s recent run of bad luck.
“We’re going through it for sure,” Kerr said, via NBC Bay Area. “But you saw how hard the guys played and stayed in it and got the fans into it. We can’t ask anything more of our players right now what they’re giving effort-wise and playing together. But yeah, we’re about as beaten up as any team.”
Horford exited Friday’s game with right calf tightness, while Seth Curry left with soreness in his left adductor. Kerr later confirmed that Horford’s issue is being treated as a calf strain and the team will be cautious with his return.
“With a calf, we’re not going to rush him back,” Kerr said.
The injury list doesn’t stop there. Draymond Green was ruled out shortly before tipoff against Minnesota due to lower back soreness, and Quinten Post suffered a sprained left ankle during the game. Post’s status remains uncertain heading into Sunday’s matchup.
The Warriors were already short-handed before Friday’s game. Jimmy Butler has been sidelined since January with a torn ACL, while Stephen Curry has now missed 16 straight games because of a right knee injury.
Golden State’s recent form reflects the growing absences. The loss to Minnesota marked the team’s fourth straight defeat and their ninth loss in the past 12 games.
