LeBron James Hints at “The Second Decision”

James (54)

15 years after his infamous “Decision” rocked the NBA, LeBron James appears ready for a sequel.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Lakers star teased what he called “the decision of all decisions” in a post on X, complete with a video reminiscent of his 2010 ESPN special. The clip shows James sitting alone in a chair on a basketball court, a clear nod to the original moment when he told Jim Gray he was “taking [his] talents to South Beach.” This time, James added the hashtag #TheSecondDecision, sending the internet into a frenzy.

Given the post’s cryptic tone, fans are left guessing what’s coming at 12 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The 40-year-old, who turns 41 in December, has hinted before that his career’s twilight isn’t far away.

“I know the end of my career is a lot sooner than later,” James said during Lakers training camp in September, though he added he was “excited to play another season.”

That uncertainty has fueled retirement rumors. Ticket prices for the Lakers’ final home game of the season have reportedly skyrocketed, with the cheapest seats reaching $746 on StubHub as of Monday afternoon, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Cwik.

Still, this could easily be something else entirely. Tuesday also marks the start of Amazon’s Prime Day, a brand James has previously partnered with. “Given the nature of social media these days, it’s also possible James’ post will wind up being a new ad or partnership,” as Cwik notes.

Whatever the reveal, the basketball world will be watching. After averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds last season, James continues to play at an elite level, leaving fans to wonder whether “The Second Decision” will mark the end of an era, or just the beginning of another one.
