LeBron James Breaks Silence on Drake Rift

James (47)

LeBron James has finally addressed the whispers about his friendship with superstar rapper Drake, and the Lakers forward wants everyone to know where he stands.

Despite ongoing speculation that their relationship has soured in the wake of Drake’s rap battle with Kendrick Lamar, James insisted there are no hard feelings.

“It’s always love,” James said when asked about Drake, making it clear he still has respect for the artist.

Fans have long believed the tension stems from LeBron showing too much support for Lamar during the very public exchange of diss tracks earlier this year. With both rappers locked in a bitter lyrical war, many noticed James’ visible support for Lamar and assumed Drake took it personally.

James and Drake’s friendship has been one of the most high-profile bonds in sports and entertainment for more than a decade. Their connection dates back to 2009, when LeBron attended one of Drake’s release parties. Over the years, the two were often seen together, with Drake sitting courtside at Cavaliers and Lakers games.

That has not been the case recently, with the Canadian rapper noticeably absent from James’ orbit. But the Lakers star refused to fuel the drama.

Still, it remains to be seen whether fans will spot Drake courtside at a Lakers game anytime soon, especially after James’ public support for Lamar.

For now, James’ comments arrive at a busy moment for the Lakers. The team begins preseason on October 3 against the Phoenix Suns before tipping off the regular season on October 21 against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

Curry, ironically, is close friends with Drake himself, a dynamic that only adds another wrinkle to this off-court storyline.
