Dell Curry Says Steph 'Not Even Close' to Retiring

At 37 years old, most NBA players are winding down, but not Steph Curry.

Fresh off his 11th All-Star appearance, the Golden State icon averaged 24.5 points, six assists, and hit a staggering 93.3 percent of his free throws – the second-highest clip of his career.

And if you ask his dad Dell Curry, retirement isn’t even on the radar.

“He still loves the game,” Dell said in an interview with RG. “He’s a competitive guy. He wants to win another title, so we’re not even close to that window yet. But when the time comes, I think he’ll make the right decision.”

Dell thinks his son could easily play deep into his 40s.

“Absolutely, just because he can shoot the basketball, and he’s going to require attention,” Curry said. “Even if you put him in the corner at 40, 41 years old, you have to guard him. That means that he’s creating space for other guys around him. If you can shoot the basketball, there’s a team that can use you in today’s NBA. But if you’re Steph Curry, I think you’re going to be able to play until you say, ‘I’m done.’”

Curry missed the final four games of the second-round playoff series against Minnesota due to a hamstring injury.

“…He’s been in the gym pretty quickly since he was able to get that hamstring cleared up, and he’s been in the gym, in the weight room, working on his body, making sure his strength and his core and everything’s ready to go,” Dell explained.

Before his injury, he and Jimmy Butler formed a dynamic duo and went 21-5 after Butler was traded to the Warriors.
