The Clippers and P.J. Tucker have agreed for the veteran to be away from the team while both parties figure out a solution.
“P.J. is a pro who has achieved a lot in his career and there’s more he wants to accomplish,” the Clippers said in a statement Sunday. “We will continue working with P.J. and his representative to find the best situation for him moving forward.”
Tucker has been with the team since early last season when he arrived in the James Harden trade from the 76ers.
This marks the second time he’s been apart from the organization.
The first time occurred when the Clippers sent both Tucker and Bones Hyland away from the team on February 14 before the All-Star break to clear their heads as both players were unhappy with their roles.
The journeyman was pretty outspoken about his situation, so much so he was fined by the $75,000 by the league for his public comments about wanting to be traded.
Tucker told ESPN before the trade deadline in February he was “actively trying to get traded.”
He doubled down on his comments when he told Anscape, “I want to be somewhere where I’m needed, wanted and can do it all. I don’t know what’s going to happen but I have my fingers crossed and I’m hoping to go somewhere else, whether I get bought out and choose where I go or where I can play.”
The 39-year-old picked up his $11.5 million player option for the 2024-25 season – which was the final year of his $33 million contract with the 76ers he signed in 2022.
