Shaq Reveals Why He Should Have Eight Championship Rings

Lakers legend Shaq won four NBA championships in his storied 19 years in the league, but he recently lamented the missed opportunities he had to win more.

“Bron was a guy I never had to say anything to,” The former big man said on The OG’s podcast. “I was so amazed at his leadership and how he played. When I was with him, I wasn’t the Shaq, but I was a good role player. We were first in our conference, played Boston, Big Baby [Glen Davis] broke my hand, I had to leave for six weeks. I tried to come back, but I wasn’t there, and we lost to Boston. These are things I think about when it comes to rings. I should have eight rings, and I’m not talking about free throws. I’m just talking about messed up opportunities.”

Shaq continued to explain exactly how he could have won eight NBA rings in his time.

“We should’ve had two [referring to his time in Miami with Udonis Haslem],” Shaq said. “I should’ve gotten one or two with Penny. Me and Kob lost to Detroit, we should’ve gotten that.

“When I first got here, we lost to Detroit; we should’ve got that one. When I played with Bron, I should’ve gotten that one. And when I was with Boston, we could’ve gotten that one too. If everything would have gone perfectly, I could have had eight or nine rings right now. I could have been like Robert Horry right now.”

If O’Neal says he could have won eight or nine, this would have actually bested Robert Horry’s career haul of seven championships.

Plus, if Shaq had actually won all eight, it would have been with five different teams.

A more impressive feat than Horry winning seven rings with three teams.
