Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan could be next player’s offspring to be drafted into the NBA and he’s pointed out the difference between him and Melo’s game.
“The way we score is kind of similar, like shooting and getting to the basket,” Kiyan said on Sloane Knows. “I looked at his highlights and I looked at my highlights and it’ll be like some similarity there. I feel like I shoot a little better than him at this age.
“He was a little bit taller and he got to the basket a little more, so I feel like I could shoot a little better shooter than him.”
Before a storied NBA career, Carmelo led Syracuse to the 2003 national championship as a freshman.
Despite his Dad having such a strong connection to the college, Anthony says Melo and his Mum, La La Anthony, aren’t pressuring him to go there.
“[My father] never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym,” Anthony told ESPN. “He did so much at Syracuse. He knows that I’m my own person. I’ve just got to make my own decision at the end of the day.
“If it is Syracuse – I go there a lot and I practice, I work out there – if it is that, that’s what it is. But he’s never going to say, ‘You got to go to Syracuse. You got to go there because I went there.’ He’s not going to make me follow in his footsteps unless I really want to.”
Kiyan will choose from his list of finalists – Syracuse, Auburn, USC, Florida State, Ohio State and Rutgers over the next eight weeks and will take one more visit to the Orange before making his final decision.
