The Lakers lost to the Warriors 134-120 on Tuesday to win the season series 3-1 and the battle between LeBron James and Steph Curry is well and truly alive.
After the defeat, the latest release of LeBron’s podcast came out and LeBron explained to his co-host JJ Redick exactly why it’s so difficult to guard the league’s best-ever three-point shooter.
“I didn’t look at the ball the whole f***ing time…The ball is not the problem with Steph Curry. He’s the f*cking problem,” James said on Mind the Game, telling Redick that LA did video analysis on an open three involving Curry in a recent loss. “Steph is the most dangerous when he doesn’t have the ball.”
“There’s not many guys, all time, in our league that is the most dangerous without the ball.
“I’m telling them [rest of the Lakers team], ‘Listen, guys, I’ve been in more than enough wars with those guys.’ I understand it, coming from a different point of view (POV). “But when Steph decides to cut inside the lane, don’t relax. He’s coming back up. You have to have reps, reps, reps, and reps of actually guarding something that’s uncomfortable. Guarding Steph is uncomfortable.”
LeBron went on to say how greener players in the league and even his own teammates can’t fully grasp how good the Warriors can be because of Steph.
“And the problem with our guys, with our league, they are not comfortable with being uncomfortable,” James explained. “That’s why Steph and the Golden State will always be relevant because they play an uncomfortable style of play.”
James was asked if he hates the Warriors style of play and answered, “I hate it when you don’t have the personnel to matchup. I hate it.”
This season’s battle between LeBron and Steph may not be over, since it looks as though the two storied players will go head-to-head in an epic Play-In matchup.
