Miami Heat’s Kyle Lowry is in his 18th NBA season and will turn 38 years old in March and he has recently spoken about what the future holds for him.
Before the Heat’s matchup against the Raptors on Wednesday, the six-time All-Star got candid about his playing future.
“I want to play,” Lowry said. “I definitely want to play. I think I still play at a high enough level that I can contribute to a team at a high level. That’s the biggest thing for me is being able to stay healthy and I’m still motivated to play. I still love this game. This game has given me so much and I still feel like I can still help the team. That’s what I want to do is be able to play.”
Lowry also went on to express his desire to retire as a Raptor, the organization where he had the most success and won a championship there in 2019.
“I’m definitely retiring as a Raptor,” Lowry said. “That’s something I’ve said since I left here. I will sign that one-day contract and I will retire as a Toronto Raptor.”
The veteran started his NBA career with the Grizzlies after he was drafted the 24th overall pick in 2006.
He played three seasons in Memphis and then went on to play four seasons with Houston, before heading to Toronto.
The Philly native played nine seasons with the Raptors, which is where he earned all of his All-Star selections in six straight seasons.
He also helped Toronto win it’s first-ever championship alongside Kawhi Leonard in 2019 after defeating Golden State in an epic six games.
The guard has appeared in each of the Heat’s 19 games so far this season.
He is averaging 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three-point range.
