Bronny James USC Debut | Expected Return Date, Health Updates

Bronny James has had his USC debut put on hold ever since suffering cardiac arrest caused by a congenital heart defect on July 24.

Bronny was released from hospital three days later and has been in good health since, with his issue not expected to be an issue long-term.

However, USC has wisely been cautious, and Bronny has missed the start of the college season as a result.

However, it appears there could be some good news on the immediate horizon, with Bronny being cleared by his personal doctor for a full return to basketball activities.

He still needs to be cleared by USC’s medical staff, but that is expected to happen soon.

That means his NCAA debut may be close, with Seth Davis of The Messenger reporting he could play his first game for the Trojans on Sunday against Long Beach State.

“There is still much uncertainty in this situation, and given the severity of what happened, no one is cutting corners,” Davis wrote. “But it is looking increasingly possible that James could see his first action when USC plays its next game on Sunday at home against Long Beach State.

“As has been his policy all along, USC coach Andy Enfield was not willing to set any expectations for Bronny’s return when I spoke to him by phone on Sunday. Enfield is not involved in any of the medical decisions (as it should be), but he sounded cautiously optimistic that James’s debut is nigh.

“‘He’ll have to get in game-shape and have full-contact practices and get his timing back before we just throw him into a college basketball game,’ Enfield said. ‘I’d like it to happen sooner rather than later, but right now I just don’t know.’”
