Trading Kyrie Irving has given Brooklyn plenty of flexibility ahead of the trade deadline and they are reportedly targeting some talent from Toronto.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski Brooklyn may use draft capital and Spencer Dinwiddie to “see what else is available out there in the marketplace to continue improving this roster around Kevin Durant…”
“If the Nets could flip some of this stuff that they got and pry OG Anunoby out of there, you may have something there with the Nets, but I don’t know if they’re going to be able to,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst told Zach Lowe on The Hoop Collective.
“I’m just telling you the Nets’ offering ability with what Toronto has is suddenly very interesting. I’m just going to leave it at that.”
Small forward Anunoby is averaging 16.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game this season.
Another good fit for Brooklyn would be Raptors shooting guard Fred VanVleet and NBA Insider Marc Stein reported: “League sources say that Brooklyn has explored the feasibility of packaging Spencer Dinwiddie and draft capital to Toronto in an attempt to acquire Fred VanVleet.”
FVV has one more year left on his contract with a player option for 2023-24 and is expected to enter free agency.
There have been rumors that the Raptors will make the championship player available for trade, making it the perfect opportunity for the Nets to acquire him.
VanVleet doesn’t have the same scoring ability as Irving but can certainly make up for that with his leadership skills and big game experience.
The third player out of Toronto the Nets are reportedly interested in is power forward Pascal Siakam, who is averaging 24.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game on 46.9 percent shooting from the field.
“The Nets have also been described to me as a team with Pascal Siakam interest … although the signals entering the final week of trade season have reflected a reluctance from Toronto to this point to make Siakam available,” Marc Stein tweeted.
