Former College Hoops Star Isaiah Austin Joins NBA League Office As Fellow

Former college hoops star Isaiah Austin is joining the NBA league office as a fellow for the 2021-22 season.

“I’ve recently just took on an NBA fellowship role with the front office of the NBA – so I’ll be starting with them [on] October 4th,” Austin said in a conversation with Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Austin was a Big 12 All-Defensive Team recipient; and was considered a top prospect in the 2014 draft before doctors diagnosed him with Marfan syndrome.

Austin played professionally throughout the world from 2014 to 2021 – but was never ruled eligible to play in the NBA.

Now, Austin will have a chance to join the NBA in a coveted role.

The NBA league office is the executive branch of the NBA; run by Commissioner Adam Silver and Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum.

It may not be the hardwood – but it’s still the boardroom.

Austin, 27, will have an enormous opportunity to secure himself a role within the corporate side of NBA basketball.
