Some eligible members of the New Orleans Pelicans have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, per a report from Andrew Lopez of ESPN.
Earlier this week, Louisiana opened up vaccine eligibility to persons over the age of 16 with health conditions that could cause higher risk of serious disease.
Most Pelicans players are eligible to receive the vaccine due to a BMI (Body Mass Index) clause.
Guard Sindarius Thornwell tweeted out his plan to get the vaccine on Thursday night.

“The Pelicans support the state’s vital efforts to encourage everyone to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, as large-scale vaccination of our community is the best way to keep everyone safe and to end the COVID-19 pandemic,” the team said in a statement.
More and more NBA players will have access to the COVID-19 vaccine over the course of the next two months.
United States President Joe Biden recently said that all states will “have enough” vaccines to make all adults eligible for inoculation by May 1.
