Michael Jordan Spat on the Pizza in Utah So No One Would Eat It

Michael Jordan sick during Game 5 of the '97 Finals

Those that tuned in to the final episodes of the ESPN docuseries “The Last Dance” got another tasty anecdote about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ two Finals matchup against the Utah Jazz.

Jordan opened up about Game 5 of the 1997 Finals and the real story behind the famous “flu game.”

In a revelation that may not have shocked some fans, it was a bad pizza that made MJ sick, not a common flu.

The story, as told by Tim Grover, George Koehler, and Jordan, is that MJ got hungry around 10 PM in Salt Lake City.

They couldn’t get any room service and most of the restaurants in the city were closed.

There was one pizza joint open for Jordan and friends to call.

According to Grover, five guys came to deliver the pizza, and Grover had a bad feeling about the whole situation.

Michael Jordan didn’t give it much thought and scarfed down the pizza all by himself.

But, there was a twist to the story that wasn’t mentioned in the episode.

Series director Jason Hehir went on to Jalen & Jacoby and explained more details.

It appears, according to Hehir, Jordan spit on the pizza to ensure no one else tried to sneak a piece.

Why did he do that?

Perhaps his friends had already went to dinner without him.

Whatever the case may be, whether spiked pizza or another unknown reason, this only adds to the myth of what led to one of the all-time greatest performances on a basketball court.

Only Michael Jordan could do this.
