Way back in December when the Bucks took on the Pacers, Thaddeus Young locked down Antetokounmpo and dropped 25-points on the night on his way to the player of the week award.
So going into Wednesday night’s game, the Pacers were under the impression they had an Antetokounmpo stopper in Thaddeus Young.
Boy, were they mistaken.
The Greek Freak dropped a 33 point, 19 rebounds and 11 assist triple-double, leading the Bucks to a 106-97 win against the Pacers on Wednesday night.
After the game Giannis was asked whether he enjoyed his matchup with Thad Young, seeing that he has a reputation as someone who can slow him down, per Journal Sentinel‘s Matt Velazquez.
Giannis’ response respectfully put to bed the idea that Thaddeus Young is some kryptonite against him.
“Oh come on man. Thaddeus Young, he’s a great guy, first of all,” Antetokounmpo said. “Amazing player, amazing teammate, plays hard.”
“At the end of the day, I”m not trying to sound arrogant and cocky because that’s not who I am, but I don’t think there’s one guy that can stop me.”
That’s not even being cocky – that’s just straight up facts.
“It’s got to be a whole team effort. They’ve got to load, they’ve got to double team me,” Giannis continued. “When I get to the paint, three guys swarm me. That’s the only way.”
“They’ve got to all work together to stop me from making plays – not getting points, from making plays.”
Ever the nice guy, Giannis couldn’t let the quote end without throwing out another compliment.
“But he’s a great defensive guy.”
Let this act as a reminder to every team in the league – Antentokounmpo will ball out if you annoy him.
But at least he’ll be super nice about it.
