Luka Doncic Reportedly Back Near Rookie Weight

Doncic (69)

Luka Doncic and his physical transformation has reportedly reached another level heading into the new NBA season.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar is now believed to be around the same weight range he was during his rookie season, following a major focus on his conditioning over the past year.

Doncic isn’t quite back to his officially listed rookie weight of 218 pounds, but he’s looking as lean as he has since entering the NBA in 2018, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

“I do think Luka’s as lean as he’s been since his rookie year,” MacMahon said. “Luka, I think, was listed 218 his rookie year, probably was legitimately like 230-ish, and he looks like he’s in about that range now.”

The update is significant considering Doncic’s conditioning and weight have been major talking points throughout his career.

The 27-year-old is still officially listed at 230 pounds, but has made a clear effort to transform his body since arriving in Los Angeles. His weight became an especially big storyline following the Mavericks’ stunning decision to trade him to the Lakers in 2025, when concerns surrounding his conditioning and long-term health were widely discussed.

Doncic responded by making significant changes to his training and diet, with his transformation gaining widespread attention last offseason and eventually landing him on the cover of Men’s Health.

Despite those changes, Doncic reportedly still played at around 240 pounds during portions of last season.

It certainly didn’t stop him from producing.

Doncic averaged a massive 33.5 points per game for Los Angeles and finished the season as the NBA’s scoring champion. However, his season ultimately ended on a frustrating note after a hamstring injury ruled him out for the entire playoffs.

Now, he appears to have taken another significant step with his conditioning.

The timing couldn’t be more important for the Lakers either.

With LeBron James no longer in Los Angeles, Doncic enters his ninth NBA season as the clear centerpiece of the franchise and will be expected to carry an even bigger workload.

And if MacMahon’s latest update is any indication, Doncic will enter that challenge in arguably the leanest shape he’s been in since becoming an NBA player.
