Reggie Miller Almost Rejected ‘The Last Dance’ Due to Painful Memories

Perrenial scorer and opponent antagonizerReggie Miller played 18 seasons in the NBA, all of them with the Indiana Pacers.

Though Miller’s highlight reel is more than full, playing in multiple All-Star games and winning Olympic gold, he never put his hands on the Larry O’Brien trophy.

Michael Jordan’s Bulls and later in Miller’s career, Kobe Bryant’s Lakers, kept Miller from ever getting a ring.

Reminiscing over his failures going head-to-head against Jordan probably wasn’t at the top of Miller’s to-do list.

“The Last Dance” director Jason Hehir detailed how tough it was to get Miller onto the 10-part series.

It took us a while to get Reggie,” Hehir said via CBS Sports “We called and called and called and emailed and called and called and called, and finally he agreed to sit down. You gotta hand it to the guy, because I know it must sting still to this day to get that close because that squad was incredible.””

Hehir said he doesn’t know if Miller got those calls or if he was flat out being ignored.

Jalen Rose who was a teammate of Miller’s had this to say, that all but confirmed Miller most likely ignored those calls.

“I was trying to initially get him to interview for this doc, and he ain’t want to do it,” Rose said via CBS Sports “It was too much pain.”

Miller’s interview was essential in discussing the Pacers battles against the Bulls as Mj was ending his career.

The 1997-98 Pacers almost ended the Bulls run for a sixth title.

“If I had to pick a team that gave us the toughest time in the East, you know, Indiana was probably the toughest, outside of Detroit,” Jordan said in the documentary.

We’re thankful Miller did decide to sit down and provide fans with some extra insight.

“The Last Dance” gave fans some much-needed NBA action in the wake of the coronavirus.
